It all started...
Looking for a place to move Spectra
Hardware's headquarters, this abandoned building, destined for the wrecking
ball, seemed the perfect fit. With hours to spare, a bid bond saved
it from an untimely demise.
A year of legal maneuvering, a zoning change and a mortgage
finally bought the company a permanent home.
Far from
inhabitable, the renovations began in haste. With the grips of winter
upon it, plugging holes in the walls, replacing windows and repairing a
leaking roof were first on the agenda. Once the water and the weather
were held at bay, heat and new amenities could be added as the resources and
the time became available. From this humble beginning, the place was
literally rebuilt internally from the ground up. Now on the final phase after nearly 20
years of
single
handed labor,
only one
third floor class room and a 24' high attic remain.
More is planned with a large living and
recreation area to be built in the remaining three classrooms. Two
stone fireplaces are to be installed into two of the building's three
chimneys. An open kitchen will be bordered by a raised library
sitting area, all with a view of the village in the valley below and the
surrounding hills that makeup
southwestern PA. So watch as the progress continues...
